She is also survived by many nephews and nieces in the D'Ambola family and cousins in the Pennell family. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Mamie. Alice was an amazing, accomplished classical pianist and piano teacher. She could have pursued a career as a concert pianist. She studied music under the renowned pianists and maestros- Henry Levine, Edwin Hughes, and Leslie Hodgson. At age 17, she won the prestigious New Jersey Young Artists Competition, sponsored by the Griffith Piano Company in Newark, New Jersey. Alice attended St. Vincent's Academy in Newark, NJ, and studied music at Georgian Court College and Barnard College. She also studied at Thomas Edision College. In 1954, she married Dr. Samuel D'Ambola. Alice worked with her husband Samuel, in his family practice medical office in Newark as well as taught piano from their home for many years. Alice and Sam moved to Atlantic Highlands, NJ in 1978. Alice pursued her career in piano instruction teaching throughout Monmouth County. and was a member of the music educators of america. She loved her many piano students and took great pride in their accomplishments. She greatly encouraged her music students (especially her female students) to pursue careers enabling them to become financially independent. She was a wonderful teacher with a wide range of students who sought her teaching from as far as Hong Kong! Her greatest pride and joy were her two children, John and Lesly, who are both physicians-a neonatologist/pediatrician and general internist.. Mom was tough, fiesty, loving, and self sacrificing for her children-which were her top priority. She always had our backs, supporting us, expecting the best from us, and believing in us more than we believed in ourselves! Thank you, mom, for EVERYTHING!!!
