Mr John Thomas Murray

December 21, 1929 - September 12, 2013

John Thomas Murray passed away peacefully September 12th with his family at his side. Son of Rose and Joseph Murray of Ireland and the Bronx. John is survived by, and spent more than 56 years of adventure together with his loving wife, Eileen Nolan Murray. John and Eileen have 5 children: son Joseph, Project Manager at Hunter Roberts Construction, and wife Laura; son John Jr., Director at Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, and wife Terri; daughter Kathleen, VP at Morgan Stanley, son Kevin, VP Operations at Business Asset Relocation, and wife Terry; daughter Margaret, HR manager at Holy Redeemer Nursing Home and husband Sal; He has 13 loving grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, James, Megan, Kelsey, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mark, Caroline, Daniel, Joseph, Patrick and cousins, nieces and nephews in the US and Ireland. John was the beloved brother of Mary (May) Murray Houlihan, Sister Mary Rose (Bernadette) Murray, S.U., the late MSGR James J. Murray, Executive Director of Catholic Charities, New York, the late Patrick W. Murray, Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI, and the late Rosaleen Murray Sage. A lifetime NY Giants fan, John has been a season ticket holder for 58 years since they played in the Polo Grounds. He graduated Fordham University in 1957, and was former President of McNally Brothers International. John was knighted by Pope Paul VI into Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. In 1964, John was responsible for securing and transporting Michelangelo’s Pieta from Rome to the World’s Fair in Queens. He has traveled the world in the service of his country working with the military as a shipping executive with D.F. Young. John served as a 1st Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War, and was a proud member of the VFW, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled American Vets, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.
